The project consisted of a comprehensive reconstruction of the square with the market located on it.
The upgrade provided merchants and residents with a more comfortable place to shop. The roof over the Lazarski Square was made of ETFE film, which consists of 2 single-chamber cushions. The large one has a surface area of more than 1,700 square meters, while the small one is less than 500 square meters. It is the larger one that is one of the largest such ETFE superfoil pillows in the world. Both rise on 26 steel poles and 3 steel rings, are connected to each other as a single unit and are supplied with air by 3 blowers.
ETFE foil is a very thin material, yet very strong. The film is 300 micrometers thick and is made of fluorine-based plastic (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene). The material is transparent, lightweight and flexible. Compared to glass-covered structures, it is dozens of times lighter. It is resistant to UV radiation, extreme temperature changes, harsh chemical conditions, and is non-flammable. ETFE film does not deteriorate when exposed to environmental pollutants, and due to its low coefficient of friction when exposed to precipitation, it is self-cleaning. The material is recyclable, so it has a low environmental impact.
In addition to roofing the square, we made the surface in the Square and market equipment - market tables, lighting, small architecture. We also made tree and shrub plantings, which residents were very keen on. We improved the quality of technical infrastructure, widened the sidewalks, and the entire modernized space will enable the organization of outdoor events. A green square and space for café gardens, an illuminated fountain and space for recreation were also created.
