Polish Folk Philharmonic in Zbąszyń is the only music school in Poland and one of the few in Europe that combines the tradition of classical instruments with folk music. The students have an opportunity to play kozioł (bagpipe), mazanki (a string instrument) and sierszanka (similar to bagpipes). This culturally significant investment was implemented by Skanska.
The philharmonic consists of three buildings. One of them is the first level Music School,
where you can find rooms for individual lessons, seminars, rhythmic lessons, a recreation room, a library and a media library. The second building is a concert hall equipped with a stage for 40-60-person band, two platforms for the choir, facility for artists and folk groups, a cloakroom, lobby and an auditorium for almost 250 people. The third building is a complex of workshops equipped with lathes, assembly and carpentry tables as well as other technical tools, where the folk instruments are repaired and restored. The workshops are the evidence of the uniqueness of the facility at the national and European scale. The students will uncover the secrets of mazanki, sierszenka and kozioł’s construction, and through this – the musical heritage of the Kozioł Region.
The adequate solutions related to the construction and materials complying with the increased acoustic requirements of the building were applied in this modern facility.
