In the years 2010 - 2012 Skanska realized an investment for the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. Scope of works realized by our company covered construction of two free-standing buildings: Foreign Language Centre and Main Library with University Data Centre of total area exceeding 12 000 square meters. Both facilities are adapted to be used by the disabled and equipped with an approach bank as well as lifts enabling access to every store of the building.
Main Library with University Data Centre
Two out of four stores of the new facility are occupied by main reading room. One of the stores features University Data Centre equipped with one of the most modern Data Center systems in Poland. The most important function of the library is provision of access for both the students and research workers to global data bases.
The building has the form of a distorted square and is surrounded by an amphitheatrically formed square with stairs decorated with a composition of soil-embedded rocks.
Foreign Language Centre
Foreign Language Centre is an L-shaped building composed of two parts joined by means of a connector. One of them houses administrative and technical facilities whereas the other one features didactic premises: lecture rooms, more than a dozen classrooms, language laboratories and staff rooms.
Lecture rooms are equipped with darkening system enabling the use of multimedia techniques. One of the rooms will feature equipment adapted to simultaneous translation consisting of wireless earphones, three translator booths, sound system and conference appliances. Interactive whiteboards will be installed in all didactic premises and language laboratories will feature electronic system for interactive language study.
Land development covered realization of access and internal roads together with walkways and parking lots. Scope of works also covered planting greens and illumination surrounding the buildings.
The investment realized by our company for the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce is a great change for the whole academic education system in Kielce. Thanks to this investment, the University in Kielce will join the group of higher education facilities possessing state-of-the-art scientific and educational infrastructure in Poland; what is more, the University profile will also be enhanced. University students will also benefit from the extension of academic campus. The so far scattered educational infrastructure has been integrated into a more integrated area.
