The DeKalb County Juvenile Justice Center is a five story, 110,000-SF building that will accommodate six courtrooms and office space for the District Attorney, Public Defender, Court Administrator, Probation Department, Child Advocacy and Clerk of Courts. Additionally, this building includes thirty inmate holding cells and various support areas for the court systems.
The Juvenile Justice Center is seeking Silver LEED certification, incorporating numerous energy efficient systems, including a roof drainage design that aides in landscape irrigation. Skanska demolished four abandoned office buildings on the site before construction began, and to maximize LEED points, the Skanska team recycled 90% of the materials in the demolished structures, including steel, concrete, wood and gypsum board. In total, our team recycled over 7,600 tons of building material. This building is the first in DeKalb County that will achieve a Silver LEED certification and the first municipal courthouse in the state of Georgia to be Silver LEED certified.
