In a joint venture with Areva and Mott MacDonald, Skanska (AMS) delivered a contract to support the upgrading and renewal of the UK’s electricity transmission network.
The initial five year contract was extended to a total of 10 years.
Along with the customer, AMS was responsible for the design, management, planning, construction and commissioning of 400kV and 132kV substations across the southeast of England.
The civil engineering work includes:
- heavy foundations for transformers, reactors, quad boosters and other HV equipment and services
- infrastructure of piling, retaining walls, roads, drains, culverts, ducts and firefighting equipment
- building works of structural steel, cladding, brick and blockwork and building services
- HV cables and troughs
