Sustainable, utilizing pro-environmental solutions, and at the same time safe and fully accessible for people with disabilities – these are the office buildings built by Skanska. The recent awards received by the Swedish developer’s Wroclaw investments attest to that fact. The Nowy Targ building was named the 2021 Accessibility Leader, while Centrum Południe received the prestigious 2021 PLGBC Green Building Award.
Centrum Południe received the "Best certified ecological building" award. The competition results were announced on October 7 during the gala accompanying the 11th PLGBC Green Building Symposium. The idea behind the competition, organized by the Polish Green Building Association, is to promote modern solutions for sustainable construction. It is the only initiative of this type that recognizes the best sustainable construction projects in Poland.
In turn, Nowy Targ was recognized in this year's nationwide "Accessibility Leader" competition organized by the Friends of Integration Association and the Society of Polish Town Planners. The competition’s institutional partner is the State Fund for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons. The competition jury, composed of urban planners and specialists in the field of architectural accessibility and universal design, as well as people nominated by the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, recognized the Nowy Targ investment in the "Office and commercial facility" category.
– We design and build our investments in a way that responds to the increasingly urgent need to reduce the negative impact on the climate. We consciously and consistently implement solutions that bring real benefits to the environment. At the same time, we show that an office developer can be a good neighbour, and that his projects should be barrier-free, open and accessible to everyone – says Adam Targowski, Environmental Director at Skanska’s commercial development business unit in CEE.
Green and adapted to the needs of people with disabilities
Centrum Południe utilizes numerous pro-environmental solutions to ensure a more rational use of natural resources. The buildings of the complex are 100% powered by energy produced on wind farms, lowering its consumption by approx. 1/3. The investment enables water to be reused, while the courtyard and the adjacent sidewalk were built of green concrete, absorbing harmful smog. Centrum Południe holds the prestigious LEED Core & Shell certificate confirming that it is sustainable, environmentally friendly, and has been designed and built to the highest standards. The LEED certification concerns, among others, energy savings, reduction of water consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. The complex is also a certified Building without Barriers, which means that it is friendly and adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, seniors, and families with children.
Nowy Targ has become a fixture in the business landscape of Wroclaw. It includes solutions that make it easier to move around the building, which is extremely important for people with disabilities. Employees and guests have access to the Connected by Skanska platform, thanks to which they can access the building and the parking lot with a QR code, without having to use a traditional card. Nowy Targ is LEED certified at the highest platinum level and holds the "Building without Barriers" certificate. Tenants have access to a green patio with rich vegetation, located on the second floor of the building. Additionally, the developer has designed five green terraces on the top floors, overlooking Wroclaw's Old Town.
